When local promoter Steve Rastin asked the question " how come BAD EARTH sound heavier as a trio than as a quintet" , the band answered " because we have to play our brand of straight up hard rock more aggressively to compensate".
It was a nervous time back in 2016 when Stephen Coxon (Vox / Guitar), Ren Stefan (Drums) and Rob Murray (Bass) suddenly found themselves with a full gig diary, Tour and the prospect of rearranging their songs to suit their new status as a three piece band . Fortunately all trepidations were washed away with the gigs that followed as the feedback from audiences was extremely positive.
"Bad Earth have moved away from their
stoner-speed groove to a more hard-metal sound,
which makes them probably the area’s only metal
band, in the true sense of the word. Seeing this
colossus on stage leaves you in no doubt that you’re
never going to ask them to babysit for you or take
your gran out shopping – they'd scare the living shit
out of them!"

Originally formed as a quintet back in January 2014, BAD EARTH was the brain child of founding members Ren Stefan and Stephen Coxon who were looking to explore their musical creativity after a period playing together in a covers band. Based in Denbigh, North Wales , UK, the original line up performed their debut show under the name of HARD LINES. Labelled as a Stoner Rock band , they gained strong reviews from their local music scene playing their second gig opening fot US Stoner giants KARMA2BURN at Chester LIVE ROOMS.
The name BAD EARTH was adopted when during a problematic rehearsal, buzzing caused disruption in the practice room, and after considerable cable pulling, it was determined that a " bad earth" in the electrical system was the cause, thus the name was conceived.
Whilst retaining the Huge guitar Riff flavours of their "Stoner Rock" beginings, BAD EARTH recruited Rob Murray in 2015 to provide the thunder on Bass and have moved into a fast tempo Hard Rock sound that takes influences from bands such as Motorhead, Clutch, Orange Goblin ,Red Fang, and Baroness delivering a no nonsense soundtrack to their live shows.
2017 proved to be a turning point for the band and they currently enjoy a busy schedule, performing at venues across Britain, recording their debut album in their newly equipped Studio and planning a 9 date tour of The Czech Republic with shows booked in Prague and Budweis.
